Labor Force Age Window Exposure Tool

Calculate overlap of an explicit attained-age interval with a supplied half-open labor-force age window without defining working age.

Description

Measure overlap of a supplied age interval and age window.

Demographic economic terms depend on age-window boundaries, population scope, household equivalence units and supplied fiscal assumptions. A worker-share change is not an estimated demographic dividend, and endpoint survivors times duration differ from integrated life-table person-years. Local pension or subsidy calculations do not determine actual eligibility or entitlement.

Measure overlap of a supplied age interval and age window.

When to use this tool

Use Labor Force Age Window Exposure when you already have ageStart, ageEnd, windowLower, windowUpper and need to measure overlap of a supplied age interval and age window.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter ageStart, ageEnd, windowLower, windowUpper. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read ageWindowExposure. Use the output convention below.

Require each interval ordered; return max(0,min(upper endpoints)-max(lower endpoints)).1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
ageStartAge StartRequired. Finite number.
ageEndAge EndRequired. Finite number.
windowLowerWindow LowerRequired. Finite number.
windowUpperWindow UpperRequired. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
ageWindowExposureContinuous interval-overlap width in the age unit; touching endpoints give zero.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Touching endpoints give zero duration. This is an interval width, not an inclusive person count, observed labor participation or cohort exposure estimate.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use complete population, cohort, labor and fiscal records with the chosen equivalence and exposure definitions. Review applicable benefit rules and estimate the appropriate model for policy analysis; one supplied allocation or accounting ratio does not establish behavior or economic effects.
