Msgpack Fixstr Byte Count Tool

Calculate msgpack fixstr byte count from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return the byte length encoded by a fixstr header.

Binary and text framing can encode a payload size, container count or terminator. Those fields describe the following data but must still be checked against its actual bytes and complete structure.

Return the byte length encoded by a fixstr header.

When to use this tool

Use Msgpack Fixstr Byte Count when decoding one bounded framing or header component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter octet. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read bytes. Use the output convention below.

Return the byte length encoded by a fixstr header. Require whole octet in [160,191]; bytes = octet-160.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
octetOne numeric octet, from 0 through 255.Required. Safe integer; minimum 160; maximum 191.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
bytesOctet values, each from 0 through 255, in the stated byte order.Required. Safe integer.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The count is UTF-8 payload bytes, not character count; content is not inspected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a complete parser for payload validity, nested containers, text encoding and record boundaries.
