Description
Decode a positive or negative MessagePack fixint octet.
Binary and text framing can encode a payload size, container count or terminator. Those fields describe the following data but must still be checked against its actual bytes and complete structure.
Decode a positive or negative MessagePack fixint octet.
When to use this tool
Use Msgpack Fixint Signed Value when decoding one bounded framing or header component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter octet. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read value. Use the output convention below.
Decode a positive or negative MessagePack fixint octet. Require octet in [0,127] or [224,255]; return octet directly or octet-256 respectively.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| octet | One numeric octet, from 0 through 255. | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0; maximum 255. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| value | Value | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Other integer tags need following bytes and are rejected by this local reader.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
