Description
Convert a supplied gas volume to reference pressure and temperature.
Cryogenic measurements and budgets depend on the fluid state, absolute temperatures and pressure reference, as well as compatible units. Local mass, heat or ideal-gas terms describe a supplied model without determining actual material properties or safe equipment operation.
Convert a supplied gas volume to reference pressure and temperature.
When to use this tool
Use Cryogen Vent Volume Reference Factor when checking a supplied cryogenic measurement, reference-state conversion or engineering budget.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter actualVolume, actualPressure, actualTemperatureK, referencePressure, referenceTemperatureK. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read referenceVolume, expansionFactor. Use the output convention below.
Convert a supplied gas volume to reference pressure and temperature. Require actualVolume >= 0 and all pressures/kelvin temperatures positive; expansionFactor = actualPressure*referenceTemperatureK/(referencePressure*actualTemperatureK), referenceVolume = volume*factor.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| actualVolume | Actual Volume | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| actualPressure | Positive absolute gas pressure, using the same unit as referencePressure. | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| actualTemperatureK | Positive absolute gas temperature in kelvins. Unit: K. | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| referencePressure | Reference Pressure | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| referenceTemperatureK | Reference Temperature K | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| referenceVolume | Reference Volume | Required. Finite number. |
| expansionFactor | Expansion Factor | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Pressures must be absolute; ideal gas and fixed amount are assumed, without phase or real-gas correction.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
