Stiffness Compliance Unit Sign Tool

Signed reciprocal stiffness and an explicit positive compliance-unit conversion factor.

Description

Return signed reciprocal stiffness and a converted compliance.

Signed and complex response quantities require an explicit convention as well as compatible units. A reciprocal, density change or loss magnitude can preserve algebra while the physical sign, frequency dependence and material interpretation remain separate questions.

Return signed reciprocal stiffness and a converted compliance.

When to use this tool

Use Stiffness Compliance Unit Sign when converting the stated signed, complex or response-property basis.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter stiffness, targetCompliancePerBaseCompliance. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read baseCompliance, convertedCompliance, sign. Use the output convention below.

Return signed reciprocal stiffness and a converted compliance. Require nonzero stiffness and positive targetCompliancePerBaseCompliance; baseCompliance = 1/stiffness, convertedCompliance = factor/stiffness, sign follows stiffness.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Negative stiffness is retained; a reciprocal and unit factor do not establish mechanical stability or a tensor inversion.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the applicable SI/cgs, complex-phase and material-response conventions; use full tensor or frequency-dependent models where scalar relations are insufficient.
