Installed Quantity Variance Tool

Calculate installed quantity variance from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Compare installed or accepted quantity with plan.

Construction bookkeeping distinguishes installed, accepted, credited and reworked quantities, as well as contractual cost and schedule conventions. A local variance or budget term can expose a gap without verifying work quality, payment entitlement or the project critical path.

Compare installed or accepted quantity with plan.

When to use this tool

Use Installed Quantity Variance when checking a supplied construction quantity, charge, record or schedule convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter plannedQuantity, installedQuantity, acceptedQuantity, useAccepted. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read countedQuantity, variance. Use the output convention below.

Compare installed or accepted quantity with plan. Require nonnegative plan/installed and accepted <= installed; countedQuantity selects accepted when useAccepted, otherwise installed; variance = counted-planned.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Acceptance is supplied metadata, not a verified inspection, completed scope or payment entitlement.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified project records, a complete schedule and governing contracts; involve qualified construction, engineering or legal professionals for practical decisions.
