Propensity Molecularity Volume Factor

Calculate the explicit V^(1-molecularity) factor used in a supplied stochastic mass-action convention, excluding rate and combinatorial factors.

Description

Calculate a supplied molecularity volume-scaling term.

Computational biology models distinguish counts, rates, reaction orders, stoichiometric signs and state constraints. A volume-scaling factor is only one component of a stochastic propensity, and a supplied flux bound is separate from a feasible network solution. Bookkeeping balances do not infer unobserved biological states or validate a model.

Calculate a supplied molecularity volume-scaling term.

When to use this tool

Use Propensity Molecularity Volume Factor when you already have molecularity, systemVolume and need to calculate a supplied molecularity volume-scaling term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter molecularity, systemVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read volumeFactor. Use the output convention below.

Require molecularity a nonnegative safe integer and systemVolume positive/finite; return volume^(1-molecularity).1

systemVolumeSystem VolumeRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Volume units and rate-constant basis are supplied. This is not a complete stochastic propensity: no molecule combinations, factorials, Avogadro factors or reaction rate are included; extreme powers can underflow to zero.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the full model definition, data provenance, reaction conventions and numerical implementation. Use complete network, stochastic or population analyses when needed; local count balances, priorities and bound checks cannot establish biological mechanisms or model adequacy.
