Description
Apply one narrative-frame enter, leave or stay action.
Comparative-literature annotations connect editions, passages, speakers, structural frames and count units. Literal keys and normalized lengths can support consistent records while textual meaning, translation fidelity and bibliographic authority remain matters for source-aware editorial analysis.
Apply one narrative-frame enter, leave or stay action.
When to use this tool
Use Narrative Frame Depth Single Shift when checking a supplied literary annotation, cross-edition offset or count convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter depth, action. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read nextDepth. Use the output convention below.
Apply one narrative-frame enter, leave or stay action. Require nonnegative whole depth and supported action; leaving depth zero is rejected, otherwise increment, decrement or retain depth.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| depth | Depth | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| action | Action | Required. Text; one of "enter", "leave", "stay"; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| nextDepth | Next Depth | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The frame structure and action are supplied; no narrative text or full nesting grammar is parsed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
