Stimulus Onset Interval Residual Tool

Compare explicitly supplied research stimulus timing without perception or cognition inference.

Description

Compare observed stimulus-onset interval with a target.

Cognitive research records can encode stimuli, response timing, probability assumptions and observation support. Local differences and caller-defined tolerance labels do not establish perceptual validity, a cognitive mechanism, statistical equivalence or a clinical assessment.

Compare observed stimulus-onset interval with a target.

When to use this tool

Use Stimulus Onset Interval Residual when checking a supplied cognitive-task timing, stimulus, probability or evidence convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstOnset, secondOnset, suppliedTargetInterval. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read observedInterval, residual. Use the output convention below.

Compare observed stimulus-onset interval with a target. observedInterval = secondOnset-firstOnset, residual = interval-suppliedTargetInterval.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Signed intervals and residuals are retained; clocks, actual display timing and appropriate experimental tolerance are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a validated study design, calibrated measurements and appropriate statistical/professional interpretation for cognitive or health conclusions.
