Stimulus Display Frame Gap Tool

Compare supplied research display timestamps in explicit frame-duration units.

Description

Return display-onset error in time and frames.

Cognitive research records can encode stimuli, response timing, probability assumptions and observation support. Local differences and caller-defined tolerance labels do not establish perceptual validity, a cognitive mechanism, statistical equivalence or a clinical assessment.

Return display-onset error in time and frames.

When to use this tool

Use Stimulus Display Frame Gap when checking a supplied cognitive-task timing, stimulus, probability or evidence convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter requestedOnset, displayedOnset, frameDuration. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read onsetGap, gapInFrames. Use the output convention below.

Return display-onset error in time and frames. Require frameDuration > 0; onsetGap = displayedOnset-requestedOnset, gapInFrames = gap/frameDuration.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
requestedOnsetRequested OnsetRequired. Finite number.
displayedOnsetDisplayed OnsetRequired. Finite number.
frameDurationFrame DurationRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
onsetGapOnset GapRequired. Finite number.
gapInFramesGap In FramesRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The frame result can be fractional; actual refresh timing, timestamp evidence and perceptual consequences are not determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a validated study design, calibrated measurements and appropriate statistical/professional interpretation for cognitive or health conclusions.
