Description
Calculate supplied test-to-reference luminance ratio.
Cognitive-task records distinguish stimuli, responses, exposure order, rating scales and adaptive timing. A stop-delay update does not estimate inhibition latency, and a screen-coordinate mapping is not a calibrated perceptual measure. Supplied observations and task flags do not themselves establish ability, diagnosis or a psychological mechanism.
Calculate supplied test-to-reference luminance ratio.
When to use this tool
Use Perceptual Match Stimulus Luminance Ratio when you already have testLuminance, referenceLuminance and need to calculate supplied test-to-reference luminance ratio.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter testLuminance, referenceLuminance. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read luminanceRatio. Use the output convention below.
Require testLuminance>=0 and reference positive/finite; return test/reference.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| testLuminance | Test Luminance | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| referenceLuminance | Reference Luminance | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| luminanceRatio | Physical test/reference luminance in comparable units; not a ratio of gamma-encoded pixel values or perceived brightness. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Luminance units and calibration must match. This is not a ratio of gamma-encoded pixel values, perceived brightness, contrast sensitivity or a measured perceptual match.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review the complete experimental protocol, stimulus calibration, observation records and analysis plan. Use an appropriate full task and statistical analysis for a research interpretation; local timing, rating and coordinate transformations preserve only their declared conventions.
