Cognitive Confidence Rating Normalizer

Map a supplied bounded confidence rating to [0,1] without treating the normalized rating as calibrated probability.

Loading tool…

Description

Normalize a supplied confidence rating within explicit endpoints.

Cognitive-task records distinguish stimuli, responses, exposure order, rating scales and adaptive timing. A stop-delay update does not estimate inhibition latency, and a screen-coordinate mapping is not a calibrated perceptual measure. Supplied observations and task flags do not themselves establish ability, diagnosis or a psychological mechanism.

Normalize a supplied confidence rating within explicit endpoints.

When to use this tool

Use Cognitive Confidence Rating Normalizer when you already have rating, minimum, maximum and need to normalize a supplied confidence rating within explicit endpoints.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter rating, minimum, maximum. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read normalizedRating. Use the output convention below.

Require minimum<maximum and rating within them; return (rating-minimum)/(maximum-minimum).1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is a coordinate, not calibrated probability or cognitive assessment. Extreme endpoint subtraction can overflow and yield a misleading zero; rescale the supplied scale first.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the complete experimental protocol, stimulus calibration, observation records and analysis plan. Use an appropriate full task and statistical analysis for a research interpretation; local timing, rating and coordinate transformations preserve only their declared conventions.
