N-Back Single Trial Target Flag

Check an exact symbol match to the n-back comparison item at one indexed trial, keeping initial no-comparison trials separate.

Description

Check one supplied n-back stimulus comparison.

Cognitive-task records distinguish stimuli, responses, exposure order, rating scales and adaptive timing. A stop-delay update does not estimate inhibition latency, and a screen-coordinate mapping is not a calibrated perceptual measure. Supplied observations and task flags do not themselves establish ability, diagnosis or a psychological mechanism.

Check one supplied n-back stimulus comparison.

When to use this tool

Use N-Back Single Trial Target Flag when you already have stimuli, index, lag and need to check one supplied n-back stimulus comparison.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter stimuli, index, lag. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read hasComparison, target, comparisonIndex. Inspect hasComparison, target before interpreting the associated values.

Require a valid safe zero-based index and positive safe lag; if index>=lag compare exact stimulus strings and return index-lag, otherwise false target with comparisonIndex=-1 and hasComparison=false.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
stimuliStimuliRequired. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256.

Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
hasComparisonHas ComparisonRequired. Boolean.
targetLiteral equality to the lagged stimulus; false without a comparison, distinguished by hasComparison.Required. Boolean.
comparisonIndexindex-lag when available, otherwise -1 sentinel.Required. Safe integer.

Limitations and assumptions

  • An unavailable comparison is not a nontarget observation. No task validity, trial response, memory score, stimulus timing or cognitive ability is assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the complete experimental protocol, stimulus calibration, observation records and analysis plan. Use an appropriate full task and statistical analysis for a research interpretation; local timing, rating and coordinate transformations preserve only their declared conventions.
