Memory Recall Serial Position Label

Label an explicitly supplied one-based memory-list serial position without estimating recall probability.

Description

Label an item's supplied serial position and endpoint flags.

Cognitive-task records distinguish stimuli, responses, exposure order, rating scales and adaptive timing. A stop-delay update does not estimate inhibition latency, and a screen-coordinate mapping is not a calibrated perceptual measure. Supplied observations and task flags do not themselves establish ability, diagnosis or a psychological mechanism.

Label an item's supplied serial position and endpoint flags.

When to use this tool

Use Memory Recall Serial Position Label when you already have itemCode, serialPosition, listLength and need to label an item's supplied serial position and endpoint flags.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter itemCode, serialPosition, listLength. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read label, first, last. Inspect first, last before interpreting the associated values.

Require itemCode nonempty, positive safe listLength and position within [1,length]; return position label and first/last comparisons.1

firstTrue at serialPosition=1; a one-item list can be both first and last.Required. Boolean.
lastLastRequired. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • A one-item list sets both flags true. No actual list, memory effect, response or recall accuracy is verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the complete experimental protocol, stimulus calibration, observation records and analysis plan. Use an appropriate full task and statistical analysis for a research interpretation; local timing, rating and coordinate transformations preserve only their declared conventions.
