Stop Signal Single Delay Step

Apply one explicitly specified success-increase/failure-decrease stop-signal delay step with caller-supplied bounds, without estimating inhibition latency.

Description

Update one supplied stop-signal delay within fixed bounds.

Cognitive-task records distinguish stimuli, responses, exposure order, rating scales and adaptive timing. A stop-delay update does not estimate inhibition latency, and a screen-coordinate mapping is not a calibrated perceptual measure. Supplied observations and task flags do not themselves establish ability, diagnosis or a psychological mechanism.

Update one supplied stop-signal delay within fixed bounds.

When to use this tool

Use Stop Signal Single Delay Step when you already have currentDelayMilliseconds, stepMilliseconds, inhibitionSuccessful, minimumDelayMilliseconds, maximumDelayMilliseconds and need to update one supplied stop-signal delay within fixed bounds.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter currentDelayMilliseconds, stepMilliseconds, inhibitionSuccessful, minimumDelayMilliseconds, maximumDelayMilliseconds. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read nextDelayMilliseconds, boundaryClipped. Inspect boundaryClipped before interpreting the associated values.

Require nonnegative step/minimum, maximum>=minimum and current within bounds; proposed=current+step on inhibition success or current-step otherwise. Clamp to bounds and flag any change from proposed.1

A stop-signal delay update is only one task component. Estimating stop-signal reaction time also requires an appropriate design, complete response data and checks of the analysis assumptions.2

Limitations and assumptions

  • Zero step and equal bounds are accepted. This is one supplied staircase update, not a complete task, stop-signal reaction-time estimate or validated protocol.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the complete experimental protocol, stimulus calibration, observation records and analysis plan. Use an appropriate full task and statistical analysis for a research interpretation; local timing, rating and coordinate transformations preserve only their declared conventions.
