Description
Calculate the shortest absolute gap between two supplied circular angles.
Cognitive-task records distinguish stimuli, responses, exposure order, rating scales and adaptive timing. A stop-delay update does not estimate inhibition latency, and a screen-coordinate mapping is not a calibrated perceptual measure. Supplied observations and task flags do not themselves establish ability, diagnosis or a psychological mechanism.
Calculate the shortest absolute gap between two supplied circular angles.
When to use this tool
Use Mental Rotation Pair Angle Gap when you already have firstAngleDegrees, secondAngleDegrees and need to calculate the shortest absolute gap between two supplied circular angles.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstAngleDegrees, secondAngleDegrees. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read shortestAbsoluteGapDegrees. Use the output convention below.
Reduce angles modulo 360, wrap their difference into a signed half-turn interval and take absolute value, giving 0..180 degrees.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| firstAngleDegrees | First Angle Degrees | Required. Finite number. |
| secondAngleDegrees | Second Angle Degrees | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| shortestAbsoluteGapDegrees | Unsigned circular separation in [0,180]. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- No visual stimulus, actual 3D rotation, reaction time, mental strategy or cognitive process is inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review the complete experimental protocol, stimulus calibration, observation records and analysis plan. Use an appropriate full task and statistical analysis for a research interpretation; local timing, rating and coordinate transformations preserve only their declared conventions.
