Vapor Quality Enthalpy Base Flag Tool

Mass-quality lever rule for supplied same-state liquid/vapor enthalpies and an explicit reference offset.

Loading tool…

Description

Return a supplied vapor-quality mixture enthalpy.

A process stream can be described on mass, mole, phase or solvent bases, which are not interchangeable. Lever rules, partition factors and operating-line terms assume compatible composition definitions and an appropriate physical model; a local balance does not determine equilibrium properties or a complete separation design.

Return a supplied vapor-quality mixture enthalpy.

When to use this tool

Use Vapor Quality Enthalpy Base Flag when checking the stated stream composition, phase or separation-model term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter quality, liquidEnthalpy, vaporEnthalpy, referenceOffset, includeOffset. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read mixtureEnthalpy. Use the output convention below.

Return a supplied vapor-quality mixture enthalpy. Require quality in [0,1]; mixtureEnthalpy = liquidEnthalpy+quality*(vaporEnthalpy-liquidEnthalpy), adding referenceOffset only when includeOffset.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Quality and enthalpies must use a compatible mass basis and state; phase equilibrium and reference consistency are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified equilibrium and material-property data on consistent bases and solve the complete process model for actual separation or equipment decisions.
