Flash Vapor Liquid One Component Balance Tool

Infer one vapor component fraction by feed/phase-flow balance; vaporComponentFlow is the amount assigned to vapor, and out-of-range compositions expose inconsistent inputs.

Description

Return flash stream flows and one component's inferred vapor composition.

A process stream can be described on mass, mole, phase or solvent bases, which are not interchangeable. Lever rules, partition factors and operating-line terms assume compatible composition definitions and an appropriate physical model; a local balance does not determine equilibrium properties or a complete separation design.

Return flash stream flows and one component's inferred vapor composition.

When to use this tool

Use Flash Vapor Liquid One Component Balance when checking the stated stream composition, phase or separation-model term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter feedFlow, vaporFraction, feedComposition, liquidComposition. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read vaporFlow, liquidFlow, vaporComposition, vaporComponentFlow. Use the output convention below.

Return flash stream flows and one component's inferred vapor composition. Require feedFlow >= 0, vaporFraction in (0,1] and input compositions in [0,1]; vapor/liquid flows split feed, vaporComposition = [feedComposition-(1-beta)*liquidComposition]/beta.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The inferred composition and vapor component flow are not clipped to physical bounds; no phase-equilibrium solution or valid split is established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified equilibrium and material-property data on consistent bases and solve the complete process model for actual separation or equipment decisions.
