Recycle Purge Loop Residual Tool

Two signed supplied mass-flow balance residuals, without a process operating recommendation.

Loading tool…

Description

Return feed and recycle-split residuals.

Process balances distinguish fresh, recycled, purged and reacted quantities on a common time and material basis. Local residuals or geometric retention factors can diagnose supplied bookkeeping, while actual steady state, feasible composition and reaction performance require a complete physical model.

Return feed and recycle-split residuals.

When to use this tool

Use Recycle Purge Loop Residual when checking the stated recycle, purge, conversion or balance convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter fresh, recycle, reactorFeed, outlet, purge. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read feedResidual, splitResidual. Use the output convention below.

Return feed and recycle-split residuals. Require nonnegative supplied flows; feedResidual = reactorFeed-fresh-recycle, splitResidual = outlet-recycle-purge.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • All flows share a mass/molar basis and time unit; zero residuals do not validate a complete process or stream composition.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Reconcile every relevant stream and component with compatible units; validate the complete steady-state or dynamic process model and actual material properties.
