Recycle Purge Inert Steady Fraction Tool

Nonreacting inert steady balance with only the explicit purge removing inert; out-of-range fractions expose inconsistent flow inputs.

Description

Return inert fraction implied by a purge steady-state balance.

Process balances distinguish fresh, recycled, purged and reacted quantities on a common time and material basis. Local residuals or geometric retention factors can diagnose supplied bookkeeping, while actual steady state, feasible composition and reaction performance require a complete physical model.

Return inert fraction implied by a purge steady-state balance.

When to use this tool

Use Recycle Purge Inert Steady Fraction when checking the stated recycle, purge, conversion or balance convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter freshInertFlow, loopFlow, purgeFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read purgeFlow, inertFraction, physicallyPossible. Inspect physicallyPossible before interpreting the associated values.

Return inert fraction implied by a purge steady-state balance. Require freshInertFlow >= 0, purgeFraction in (0,1] and loopFlow > 0; purgeFlow = loop*purge, inertFraction = fresh inert/purgeFlow, physicallyPossible tests fresh inert <= purge.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • An impossible fraction above one is returned with false flag; no inert generation, separation or actual steady state is verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Reconcile every relevant stream and component with compatible units; validate the complete steady-state or dynamic process model and actual material properties.
