Description
Calculate supplied petiole-to-blade length ratio and combined length.
Botanical observations distinguish specimen provenance, sampling states, germination records, image area and category vocabularies. Excluded observations differ from failed germination, and a pixel-area calibration must use an area ratio rather than a length ratio. Source-qualified labels preserve reported identifications without confirming them.
Calculate supplied petiole-to-blade length ratio and combined length.
When to use this tool
Use Leaf Petiole Blade Ratio when you already have petioleLength, bladeLength and need to calculate supplied petiole-to-blade length ratio and combined length.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter petioleLength, bladeLength. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read petioleToBladeRatio, totalLength. Use the output convention below.
Require petiole>=0 and blade>0; return petiole/blade and petiole+blade.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| petioleLength | Petiole Length | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| bladeLength | Blade Length | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| petioleToBladeRatio | Petiole To Blade Ratio | Required. Finite number. |
| totalLength | Total Length | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Matching units and definitions are assumed. No leaf, landmarks, taxonomy, plant condition or actual measurement is verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect the original specimens, observation logs, calibrated images and taxonomic sources. Use the complete survey or experimental method for biological interpretation; local fractions and record checks do not infer unobserved states or mechanisms.
