Plant Cover Dominance Code

Compare a literal dominance response with an explicit codebook without assigning cover classes.

Description

Check a supplied cover code against an allowed list and missing sentinel.

Botanical observations distinguish specimen provenance, sampling states, germination records, image area and category vocabularies. Excluded observations differ from failed germination, and a pixel-area calibration must use an area ratio rather than a length ratio. Source-qualified labels preserve reported identifications without confirming them.

Check a supplied cover code against an allowed list and missing sentinel.

When to use this tool

Use Plant Cover Dominance Code when you already have recordedCode, allowedCodes, missingCode and need to check a supplied cover code against an allowed list and missing sentinel.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter recordedCode, allowedCodes, missingCode. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read recognized, missing. Inspect recognized, missing before interpreting the associated values.

Require missingCode absent from allowedCodes; return exact allowed membership and exact missing equality separately.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
recordedCodeRecorded CodeRequired. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192.
allowedCodesAllowed CodesRequired. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256.
missingCodeMissing CodeRequired. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
recognizedLiteral membership in allowedCodes; unknown codes can be neither recognized nor missing.Required. Boolean.
missingMissingRequired. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Empty codes and duplicate allowed entries are accepted if not the sentinel. An unknown nonmissing code sets both false; no cover, class definition or field observation is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the original specimens, observation logs, calibrated images and taxonomic sources. Use the complete survey or experimental method for biological interpretation; local fractions and record checks do not infer unobserved states or mechanisms.
