Description
Append a supplied duplicate suffix to a herbarium sheet identifier.
Botanical observations distinguish specimen provenance, sampling states, germination records, image area and category vocabularies. Excluded observations differ from failed germination, and a pixel-area calibration must use an area ratio rather than a length ratio. Source-qualified labels preserve reported identifications without confirming them.
Append a supplied duplicate suffix to a herbarium sheet identifier.
When to use this tool
Use Herbarium Sheet Duplicate Suffix when you already have sheetIdentifier, duplicateSuffix, separator and need to append a supplied duplicate suffix to a herbarium sheet identifier.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter sheetIdentifier, duplicateSuffix, separator. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read duplicateIdentifier. Use the output convention below.
Require identifier/suffix nonempty; join with the supplied separator, which may be empty.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| sheetIdentifier | Sheet Identifier | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| duplicateSuffix | Duplicate Suffix | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| separator | Separator | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |

| duplicateIdentifier | Duplicate Identifier | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |

"input": {
"sheetIdentifier": "00124",
"duplicateSuffix": "b",
"separator": ""
},
"output": {
"duplicateIdentifier": "00124b"
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- No specimen, duplicate status, identifier uniqueness, herbarium convention or provenance is verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect the original specimens, observation logs, calibrated images and taxonomic sources. Use the complete survey or experimental method for biological interpretation; local fractions and record checks do not infer unobserved states or mechanisms.
