Remediation Field Duplicate Relative Gap

Normalize an explicit duplicate-result absolute gap to mean absolute magnitude without applying acceptance limits.

Loading tool…

Description

Calculate a supplied duplicate-result relative absolute gap fraction.

Remediation record terms depend on sample identities, concentration bases, timing and quality-control conventions. Relative duplicate gap is a fraction with a specified denominator, while signed readings can be accepted without being physically meaningful. Local calculations do not establish contaminant removal, environmental safety or an effective treatment.

Calculate a supplied duplicate-result relative absolute gap fraction.

When to use this tool

Use Remediation Field Duplicate Relative Gap when you already have firstResult, secondResult and need to calculate a supplied duplicate-result relative absolute gap fraction.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstResult, secondResult. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read relativeGapFraction. Use the output convention below.

Require abs(first)+abs(second)>0; return 2*abs(first-second)/(abs(first)+abs(second)).1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
firstResultFirst ResultRequired. Finite number.
secondResultSecond ResultRequired. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
relativeGapFraction2*abs(firstResult-secondResult)/(abs(firstResult)+abs(secondResult)); a fraction, not percent. Rescale extreme readings to avoid denominator overflow.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Inputs may be signed and the result is a fraction, not a percentage or acceptance test. Extreme denominator overflow can yield a misleading zero; rescale matching units. No method precision, contamination or valid duplicate sample is established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review original laboratory and field records with the complete sampling, calibration and remediation assessment. Check detection limits, units and applicable quality criteria before interpreting a local comparison or supplied process record.
