Detection Qualifier Interval Width Tool

Measure an explicit finite censored-result interval while preserving endpoint membership.

Loading tool…

Description

Return a supplied detection-qualifier interval width and endpoint flags.

A censored analytical result provides a bound rather than a quantified concentration. Missing results, left-censoring, right-censoring and endpoint inclusion are different states; a reporting share or interval-width check does not select a detection limit or recover unobserved values.

Return a supplied detection-qualifier interval width and endpoint flags.

When to use this tool

Use Detection Qualifier Interval Width when checking the stated censoring, qualifier or reporting-denominator convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter lower, upper, lowerIncluded, upperIncluded. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read width, lowerClosed, upperClosed. Inspect lowerClosed, upperClosed before interpreting the associated values.

Return a supplied detection-qualifier interval width and endpoint flags. Require upper >= lower; zero width is accepted only with both endpoints included.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • These numeric interval records do not determine an assay detection limit, a biological threshold or a confidence interval.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Retain the original qualifier and method-specific detection/reporting definitions; use an appropriate censored-data analysis for estimates or uncertainty.
