Biospecimen Detection Limit Ratio Tool

Compare supplied signed research measurements to an explicit assay limit without a health-risk interpretation.

Description

Convert a reported value and compare with a supplied positive limit.

Biomarker normalization changes the reporting basis, for example from sample volume to creatinine, lipid mass, moles or matrix quantity. The numerator, denominator and conversion factors must describe compatible quantities; normalization does not by itself establish exposure, toxicity or clinical meaning.

Convert a reported value and compare with a supplied positive limit.

When to use this tool

Use Biospecimen Detection Limit Ratio when converting or comparing the stated analytical reporting basis.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter reportedValue, suppliedLimit, sourceScale. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read convertedValue, limitRatio. Use the output convention below.

Convert a reported value and compare with a supplied positive limit. Require sourceScale and suppliedLimit > 0; convertedValue = reportedValue*scale, limitRatio = converted/limit.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The limit and factor are supplied; neither toxicity, clinical interpretation nor a regulatory exceedance is determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Verify units, matrix identity, method calibration and the intended normalization model before making exposure or health inferences.
