Description

Quantize location coordinates to a supplied angular grid.

Consent, privacy and retention records encode supplied purposes, audiences, withdrawal status and timing rules. Literal membership or a true local predicate can organize these assertions while valid informed consent, adequate de-identification and lawful processing require separate contextual assessment.

Quantize location coordinates to a supplied angular grid.

When to use this tool

Use Biomonitoring Record Location Precision Mask when checking the stated permission, withdrawal, retention or disclosure-record convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter latitude, longitude, quantumDegrees. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read latitude, longitude, quantumDegrees. Use the output convention below.

Quantize location coordinates to a supplied angular grid. Require latitude [-90,90], longitude [-180,180], quantumDegrees in (0,180]; round each coordinate/grid step and clamp to its coordinate bounds.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
latitudeLatitudeRequired. Finite number; minimum -90; maximum 90.
longitudeLongitudeRequired. Finite number; minimum -180.
quantumDegreesPositive angular grid spacing no greater than 180 degrees; not a geodesic privacy radius.Required. Finite number; strictly above 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • JavaScript half ties round toward positive infinity; this is precision reduction, not anonymization or geodesic-distance masking.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review original permissions, participant choices and applicable organizational/legal requirements with the responsible professionals before actual use, disclosure or deletion.
