Taxon Label Collision Count Tool

Count exact labels linked to multiple supplied taxon IDs without taxonomic resolution.

Description

Count literal taxon labels associated with multiple IDs.

Biodiversity summaries depend on taxon concepts, sampling effort, detection and missing-status policies. Literal labels and observed shares can organize records while species identity, true abundance, occupancy and conservation status require appropriate ecological evidence and analysis.

Count literal taxon labels associated with multiple IDs.

When to use this tool

Use Taxon Label Collision Count when checking the stated biodiversity record, effort, count or support convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter labels, taxonIds. Follow any array-alignment requirements below. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read collidingLabels. Use the output convention below.

Count literal taxon labels associated with multiple IDs. Require aligned labels/taxonIds; group distinct IDs per label and count groups of size greater than one.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Aliases, source-defined concepts and biological taxonomy are not resolved; repeated identical IDs do not create a collision.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use source-aware taxonomy, verified field records and a suitable sampling/detection model for ecological estimates, uncertainty or conservation conclusions.
