Taxon Concept Overlap Flag Tool

Compare supplied concept identifiers only under an explicit source-compatibility flag.

Description

Return shared taxon-concept IDs only when source compatibility is asserted.

Biodiversity summaries depend on taxon concepts, sampling effort, detection and missing-status policies. Literal labels and observed shares can organize records while species identity, true abundance, occupancy and conservation status require appropriate ecological evidence and analysis.

Return shared taxon-concept IDs only when source compatibility is asserted.

When to use this tool

Use Taxon Concept Overlap Flag when checking the stated biodiversity record, effort, count or support convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstConceptIds, secondConceptIds, sourceCompatible. Follow any array-alignment requirements below. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read sharedIds, overlapKnown. Inspect overlapKnown before interpreting the associated values.

Return shared taxon-concept IDs only when source compatibility is asserted. overlapKnown mirrors sourceCompatible; sharedIds is the distinct literal intersection or an empty placeholder when compatibility is false.1

secondConceptIdsSecond Concept IdsRequired. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256.
sourceCompatibleSource CompatibleRequired. Boolean.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
sharedIdsEmpty placeholder when sourceCompatible=false; inspect overlapKnown before interpreting disjointness.Required. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256.

Limitations and assumptions

  • An empty list with overlapKnown false is not evidence of disjoint concepts; no taxonomic resolution or source compatibility is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use source-aware taxonomy, verified field records and a suitable sampling/detection model for ecological estimates, uncertainty or conservation conclusions.
