Description
Convert a supplied mean flow and delay to collection delay volume.
Biochemical quantities depend on species definitions, mass versus amount basis, reference states, blank models and assay conditions. A free/bound difference does not establish equilibrium, a per-volume activity differs from activity per protein mass, and a dilution factor differs from its reciprocal aliquot fraction.
Convert a supplied mean flow and delay to collection delay volume.
When to use this tool
Use Chromatogram Fraction Collection Delay Volume when you already have flowMillilitersPerMinute, delaySeconds and need to convert a supplied mean flow and delay to collection delay volume.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter flowMillilitersPerMinute, delaySeconds. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read delayVolumeMilliliters. Use the output convention below.
Require flowMillilitersPerMinute>=0 and delaySeconds>=0; return flow*delay/60 in mL.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| flowMillilitersPerMinute | Flow Milliliters Per Minute | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| delaySeconds | Delay Seconds | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| delayVolumeMilliliters | flowMillilitersPerMinute*delaySeconds/60, using a constant or interval-mean supplied flow. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This assumes the stated mean or constant flow over the interval. No actual tubing volume, dispersion, fraction alignment or flow trace is measured.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the full assay, reaction and calibration method with verified sample records. Check units, reference definitions, blanks and experimental assumptions before interpreting a local product, fraction or rate as a valid biochemical measurement.
