Description
Calculate a supplied dilution factor and aliquot fraction.
Biochemical quantities depend on species definitions, mass versus amount basis, reference states, blank models and assay conditions. A free/bound difference does not establish equilibrium, a per-volume activity differs from activity per protein mass, and a dilution factor differs from its reciprocal aliquot fraction.
Calculate a supplied dilution factor and aliquot fraction.
When to use this tool
Use Factor Dilution Aliquot Ratio when you already have aliquotVolume, finalVolume and need to calculate a supplied dilution factor and aliquot fraction.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter aliquotVolume, finalVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read dilutionFactor, aliquotFraction. Use the output convention below.
Require aliquotVolume>0 and finalVolume>=aliquotVolume; return final/aliquot and aliquot/final.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| aliquotVolume | Aliquot Volume | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| finalVolume | Final Volume | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| dilutionFactor | finalVolume/aliquotVolume, at least one. | Required. Finite number. |
| aliquotFraction | aliquotVolume/finalVolume, reciprocal of the dilution factor. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The factor is at least one under this volume convention. No concentration, volume additivity, actual preparation or safe laboratory procedure is established.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the full assay, reaction and calibration method with verified sample records. Check units, reference definitions, blanks and experimental assumptions before interpreting a local product, fraction or rate as a valid biochemical measurement.
