Specimen Aliquot Zero Base Flag Tool

Preserve the undefined zero-volume aliquot fraction with an explicit flag.

Description

Return an aliquot's parent-volume share with a zero-base flag.

Biobank quantity and time budgets use explicit parent/aliquot, dead-volume, clock and billing conventions. A remainder, delay envelope or fee term can reconcile supplied records without establishing specimen stability, safe use or actual contractual rights.

Return an aliquot's parent-volume share with a zero-base flag.

When to use this tool

Use Specimen Aliquot Zero Base Flag when checking the stated biobank volume, timing, precision or fee convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter totalVolume, aliquotVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read fraction, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Return an aliquot's parent-volume share with a zero-base flag. Require 0 <= aliquotVolume <= totalVolume; fraction divides when total positive, otherwise zero with defined false.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Zero at an empty parent is a placeholder; sample quality, actual aliquoting and identity are not established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified collection/storage records, suitable quality controls and governing billing/permission rules for actual specimen or payment decisions.
