Biobank Aliquot Remainder Volume Term Tool

Calculate biobank aliquot remainder volume term from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return aliquot remainder and usable volume after dead volume.

Biobank quantity and time budgets use explicit parent/aliquot, dead-volume, clock and billing conventions. A remainder, delay envelope or fee term can reconcile supplied records without establishing specimen stability, safe use or actual contractual rights.

Return aliquot remainder and usable volume after dead volume.

When to use this tool

Use Biobank Aliquot Remainder Volume Term when checking the stated biobank volume, timing, precision or fee convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter parentVolume, withdrawnVolumes, deadVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read remaining, usable. Use the output convention below.

Return aliquot remainder and usable volume after dead volume. Require nonnegative parent/dead/withdrawals and withdrawals <= parent; remaining = parent-sum(withdrawn), usable = max(0,remaining-dead).1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
parentVolumeParent VolumeRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
withdrawnVolumesWithdrawn VolumesRequired. Array of finite number; maximum items 256.
deadVolumeDead VolumeRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
remainingSigned allowance or deadline remainder under the explicit direction above; negative values indicate a supplied shortfall where allowed.Required. Finite number.
usableUsableRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Dead volume can exceed remainder; flooring usable at zero is a bookkeeping policy, not sample-quality or safe-use verification.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified collection/storage records, suitable quality controls and governing billing/permission rules for actual specimen or payment decisions.
