Parent Child Volume Share Tool

Calculate parent child volume share from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return child-volume allocation and retained parent volume.

Biobank quantity and time budgets use explicit parent/aliquot, dead-volume, clock and billing conventions. A remainder, delay envelope or fee term can reconcile supplied records without establishing specimen stability, safe use or actual contractual rights.

Return child-volume allocation and retained parent volume.

When to use this tool

Use Parent Child Volume Share when checking the stated biobank volume, timing, precision or fee convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter parentVolume, childVolumes. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read childTotal, share, retainedVolume. Use the output convention below.

Return child-volume allocation and retained parent volume. Require parentVolume > 0, nonnegative children and child sum <= parent; return sum, sum/parent and parent-sum.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Volumes must use one basis without duplicate allocation; specimen identity, quality and actual aliquot production are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified collection/storage records, suitable quality controls and governing billing/permission rules for actual specimen or payment decisions.
