H Index One New Citation Threshold Tool

Recompute h before and after exactly one citation to a caller-selected paper.

Description

Return h-index before and after one added citation.

Bibliometric credit and citation indexes depend on corpus coverage, author/affiliation identity and a declared counting convention. A fractional contribution or index threshold describes supplied records without measuring research quality, causality or comparable scholarly impact across fields.

Return h-index before and after one added citation.

When to use this tool

Use H Index One New Citation Threshold when checking the stated bibliometric contribution, credit allocation or local index step.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter citations, paper. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read before, after, increases. Inspect increases before interpreting the associated values.

Return h-index before and after one added citation. Require nonnegative citation values and valid zero-based paper index; sort descending, count values meeting one-based rank, then repeat after adding one to the chosen paper.1

The h-index combines a paper count with a citation threshold. It is a corpus-dependent count convention rather than a direct measure of research quality.2

Limitations and assumptions

  • Citation counts must be nonnegative whole numbers; paper identity, source coverage and meaningful research impact are not validated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified complete publication/citation data, identity resolution and a justified field/context-aware evaluation policy for research assessment.
