DOI Casefold Comparison

Compare explicit ASCII DOI name strings case-insensitively; resolver URLs, whitespace and registry-existence checks are outside this input grammar.

Description

Compare two supplied DOI-like names ignoring ASCII case.

Bibliographic records distinguish editions, publication states, author identifiers, dates and fractional-credit conventions. A DOI-shaped string may not resolve, and an ORCID-shaped string can fail its checksum. Supplied status and source labels organize evidence without establishing authorship, publication validity or a complete impact measure.

Compare two supplied DOI-like names ignoring ASCII case.

When to use this tool

Use DOI Casefold Comparison when you already have firstDoi, secondDoi and need to compare two supplied DOI-like names ignoring ASCII case.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstDoi, secondDoi. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read sameName, firstNormalized, secondNormalized. Inspect sameName before interpreting the associated values.

Require each string match 10., one or more digits, / and one or more printable nonspace ASCII characters. Lowercase both and compare.1

DOI names are compared without ASCII case distinctions. This local ASCII grammar and comparison do not resolve a name or verify that a DOI has been registered.2

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

Limitations and assumptions

  • This local grammar accepts nonstandard registrant lengths and does not accept a DOI URL wrapper or Unicode suffix. No DOI is resolved, registry status checked or publication verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check original publications, authoritative identifier records and current publisher notices. Define counting scope, credit allocation and date meaning before combining local labels or author overlaps into a bibliometric analysis.
