Description
Format an author label and URL from a supplied ORCID-shaped identifier.
Bibliographic records distinguish editions, publication states, author identifiers, dates and fractional-credit conventions. A DOI-shaped string may not resolve, and an ORCID-shaped string can fail its checksum. Supplied status and source labels organize evidence without establishing authorship, publication validity or a complete impact measure.
Format an author label and URL from a supplied ORCID-shaped identifier.
When to use this tool
Use Author ORCID Link Label when you already have authorDisplayName, orcid and need to format an author label and URL from a supplied ORCID-shaped identifier.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter authorDisplayName, orcid. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read label, url. Use the output convention below.
Require authorDisplayName nonempty and exactly four hyphen-separated digit groups in the 4-4-4-4 pattern, with a digit or uppercase X last. Prefix the identifier with https://orcid.org/ for the URL.1
An ORCID identifier includes a checksum character as well as its grouped display shape. This helper checks the shape but omits checksum validation and registry lookup.2
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |

| authorDisplayName | Author Display Name | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| orcid | Hyphenated 16-character digit/X shape; checksum and registry existence are not checked. | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| label | Label | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| url | Url | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
{
"input": {
"authorDisplayName": "A. Researcher",
"orcid": "0000-0002-1825-0097"
},
"output": {
"label": "A. Researcher [ORCID 0000-0002-1825-0097]",
"url": "https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1825-0097"
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- The checksum is not calculated; a correctly shaped nonexistent or invalid identifier can pass. No author identity, account ownership, permission or live record is verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Check original publications, authoritative identifier records and current publisher notices. Define counting scope, credit allocation and date meaning before combining local labels or author overlaps into a bibliometric analysis.
