Description
Return one spectral-bin photolysis rate contribution.
Atmospheric reaction, partitioning and deposition terms depend on supplied rates, spectral coordinates, coefficient definitions and transport assumptions. One bin or first-order factor is distinct from a complete chemical mechanism, evolving plume or verified treatment/exposure outcome.
Return one spectral-bin photolysis rate contribution.
When to use this tool
Use Photolysis One Bin Photon Rate when evaluating the stated atmospheric reaction, photolysis, partitioning or transport term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter photonFluxDensity, binWidth, crossSection, quantumYield. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read rateContribution. Use the output convention below.
Return one spectral-bin photolysis rate contribution. Require nonnegative photonFluxDensity, binWidth, crossSection and quantumYield; contribution is their product.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| photonFluxDensity | Actinic photon flux per area, time and matching spectral coordinate, not radiant energy flux. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| binWidth | Bin Width | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| crossSection | Cross Section | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| quantumYield | Supplied nonnegative reaction yield per absorbed photon; this contract does not cap it at one. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| rateContribution | Rate Contribution | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use actinic photon-flux density per matching spectral unit and compatible area units; quantum yield is not capped at one and a full spectrum is not integrated.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified coefficients and a complete suitable chemical/transport or spectral model, including changing conditions and omitted processes, for environmental conclusions.
