Gas Sample Humidity Volume Correction Tool

Remove the water-vapor mole fraction at unchanged temperature and total pressure under ideal-gas behavior.

Description

Return dry-volume equivalent from wet sample volume.

Gas-sampling conversions distinguish actual from reference volume, wet from dry composition and total from partial pressure. A supplied ideal-gas or constant-flow factor requires compatible units and state definitions without validating actual sampling conditions or exposure.

Return dry-volume equivalent from wet sample volume.

When to use this tool

Use Gas Sample Humidity Volume Correction when checking the stated gas state, sampling-volume or flow-basis conversion.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter wetVolume, vaporPressure, totalPressure. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read dryFraction, dryVolume. Use the output convention below.

Return dry-volume equivalent from wet sample volume. Require wetVolume/vaporPressure >= 0 and totalPressure > vaporPressure; dryFraction = 1-vapor/total, dryVolume = wetVolume*fraction.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes ideal partial-pressure correction at the same state; temperature normalization and actual sample humidity are not derived.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified absolute pressure/temperature, humidity and flow calibration with the appropriate real-gas/sampling model when ideal assumptions are inadequate.
