Description
Scale a gas column to supplied reference pressure.
Atmospheric analytical quantities require explicit sample/background, mole, charge, reference-pressure and reporting bases. A ratio or balance can be consistent numerically without establishing actual composition, sample representativeness, source identity or a health/regulatory interpretation.
Scale a gas column to supplied reference pressure.
When to use this tool
Use Gas Column Reference Pressure Gap when checking the stated atmospheric chemical measurement, composition or amount convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter column, measuredPressure, referencePressure. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read normalizedColumn, factor. Use the output convention below.
Scale a gas column to supplied reference pressure. Require measured/reference pressures > 0; factor = reference/measured, normalizedColumn = column*factor.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| column | Column | Required. Finite number. |
| measuredPressure | Measured Pressure | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| referencePressure | Reference Pressure | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| normalizedColumn | Normalized Column | Required. Finite number. |
| factor | Multiplier applied in the stated direction, with the declared quantity and unit basis. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This assumes a compatible proportional column-pressure normalization; no gas profile, retrieval model or actual pressure state is validated.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated analytical data, compatible units and complete sampling/speciation information; consult appropriate environmental professionals for exposure or regulatory decisions.
