Filter Blank Mass Share Tool

Preserve signed blank-corrected filter masses; zero gross mass has explicitly undefined share.

Description

Return blank-corrected filter mass and blank share.

Atmospheric analytical quantities require explicit sample/background, mole, charge, reference-pressure and reporting bases. A ratio or balance can be consistent numerically without establishing actual composition, sample representativeness, source identity or a health/regulatory interpretation.

Return blank-corrected filter mass and blank share.

When to use this tool

Use Filter Blank Mass Share when checking the stated atmospheric chemical measurement, composition or amount convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter grossMass, blankMass. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read netMass, blankShare, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Return blank-corrected filter mass and blank share. netMass = grossMass-blankMass, blankShare divides by nonzero grossMass or is zero with defined false.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Signed masses and net results are allowed; a zero gross-mass placeholder is not measured zero blank contribution or assay validation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated analytical data, compatible units and complete sampling/speciation information; consult appropriate environmental professionals for exposure or regulatory decisions.
