Emission Ratio Background Adjusted Pair Tool

Calculate emission ratio background adjusted pair from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return background-adjusted emission ratio.

Atmospheric analytical quantities require explicit sample/background, mole, charge, reference-pressure and reporting bases. A ratio or balance can be consistent numerically without establishing actual composition, sample representativeness, source identity or a health/regulatory interpretation.

Return background-adjusted emission ratio.

When to use this tool

Use Emission Ratio Background Adjusted Pair when checking the stated atmospheric chemical measurement, composition or amount convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstObserved, firstBackground, secondObserved, secondBackground. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read firstExcess, secondExcess, ratio. Use the output convention below.

Return background-adjusted emission ratio. Require secondObserved != secondBackground; first/second excess subtract respective backgrounds, ratio = firstExcess/secondExcess.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Signed excesses are allowed; tracer compatibility, emission causality and actual plume composition are not established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated analytical data, compatible units and complete sampling/speciation information; consult appropriate environmental professionals for exposure or regulatory decisions.
