Filter Sample Face Velocity Term Tool

Calculate filter sample face velocity term from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Return filter face velocity and sampled volume.

Gas-sampling conversions distinguish actual from reference volume, wet from dry composition and total from partial pressure. A supplied ideal-gas or constant-flow factor requires compatible units and state definitions without validating actual sampling conditions or exposure.

Return filter face velocity and sampled volume.

When to use this tool

Use Filter Sample Face Velocity Term when checking the stated gas state, sampling-volume or flow-basis conversion.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter flowVolumePerSecond, filterArea, durationSeconds. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read faceVelocity, sampledVolume. Use the output convention below.

Return filter face velocity and sampled volume. Require nonnegative flowVolumePerSecond/durationSeconds and filterArea > 0; velocity = flow/area, volume = flow*duration.1

filterAreaFilter AreaRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes constant volumetric flow and compatible area units; filter efficiency, pressure drop and exposure representativeness are not inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified absolute pressure/temperature, humidity and flow calibration with the appropriate real-gas/sampling model when ideal assumptions are inadequate.
