Studio Material Quantity Per Learner Tool

Calculate studio material quantity per learner from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return available material and per-learner portion with a zero-count flag.

Studio material calculations distinguish gross stock, usable material, finished area and losses. A loss fraction can refer to material removed from the starting quantity or an extra allowance added to a requirement; these conventions produce different formulas and must remain explicit.

Return available material and per-learner portion with a zero-count flag.

When to use this tool

Use Studio Material Quantity Per Learner when checking the stated studio material, shrinkage or usable-area convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter totalQuantity, reservedQuantity, learners. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read availableQuantity, perLearner, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Return available material and per-learner portion with a zero-count flag. Require nonnegative whole learners and 0 <= reserved <= total; available = total-reserved, perLearner divides or is zero with defined false.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
totalQuantityTotal QuantityRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
reservedQuantityReserved QuantityRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
learnersLearnersRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
availableQuantityAvailable QuantityRequired. Finite number.
perLearnerAvailable quantity/learners, or zero placeholder when learners=0 and defined=false.Required. Finite number.
definedWhether the associated denominator or reporting quantity is defined; inspect before interpreting zero placeholders.Required. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The zero-count portion is a placeholder; allocation fairness and actual material availability are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured material behavior, actual offcuts and process-specific trials to plan fabrication or firing; review classroom conditions with qualified staff.
