Printmaking Class Ink Per Sheet Term Tool

Calculate printmaking class ink per sheet term from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return usable ink per sheet and gross ink per student.

Studio material calculations distinguish gross stock, usable material, finished area and losses. A loss fraction can refer to material removed from the starting quantity or an extra allowance added to a requirement; these conventions produce different formulas and must remain explicit.

Return usable ink per sheet and gross ink per student.

When to use this tool

Use Printmaking Class Ink Per Sheet Term when checking the stated studio material, shrinkage or usable-area convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter inkMass, setupWaste, sheets, students. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read usableInk, perSheet, perStudent. Use the output convention below.

Return usable ink per sheet and gross ink per student. Require inkMass >= setupWaste >= 0 and positive whole sheets/students; usableInk subtracts waste, perSheet uses usableInk, perStudent uses gross inkMass.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The two outputs intentionally use different ink bases; no actual printing yield, ink suitability or safe handling is verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured material behavior, actual offcuts and process-specific trials to plan fabrication or firing; review classroom conditions with qualified staff.
