Student Palette Shared Well Allocation Tool

Calculate student palette shared well allocation from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Divide unreserved palette wells among students.

Studio material calculations distinguish gross stock, usable material, finished area and losses. A loss fraction can refer to material removed from the starting quantity or an extra allowance added to a requirement; these conventions produce different formulas and must remain explicit.

Divide unreserved palette wells among students.

When to use this tool

Use Student Palette Shared Well Allocation when checking the stated studio material, shrinkage or usable-area convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter wells, reserved, students. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read perStudent, unallocated. Use the output convention below.

Divide unreserved palette wells among students. Require whole 0 <= reserved <= wells and students >= 1; perStudent = floor((wells-reserved)/students), unallocated is the remainder.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes equal integer allocation; actual palette geometry, material compatibility and classroom needs are not assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured material behavior, actual offcuts and process-specific trials to plan fabrication or firing; review classroom conditions with qualified staff.
