Art Class Shared Material Portion Tool

Calculate art class shared material portion from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return individual and shared material portions.

Studio material calculations distinguish gross stock, usable material, finished area and losses. A loss fraction can refer to material removed from the starting quantity or an extra allowance added to a requirement; these conventions produce different formulas and must remain explicit.

Return individual and shared material portions.

When to use this tool

Use Art Class Shared Material Portion when checking the stated studio material, shrinkage or usable-area convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter totalMaterial, reserved, learners, sharedFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read individualPortion, sharedPool. Use the output convention below.

Return individual and shared material portions. Require total >= reserved >= 0, positive whole learners and sharedFraction in [0,1]; sharedPool = available*fraction, individual = available*(1-fraction)/learners.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes equal individual portions; actual material availability, fairness and appropriate classroom use are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured material behavior, actual offcuts and process-specific trials to plan fabrication or firing; review classroom conditions with qualified staff.
