Sample Location Edge Offset Tool

Resolve a supplied sample-location offset from an explicit edge and axis convention.

Loading tool…

Description

Return a scaled signed sample-to-edge offset.

Conservation measurements separate nominal material composition, contact geometry, expansion and mechanical response. A volume fraction or clearance term evaluates supplied properties under a limited model; actual material compatibility, treatment effects and object stability require examination and specialist judgment.

Return a scaled signed sample-to-edge offset.

When to use this tool

Use Sample Location Edge Offset when checking the stated conservation material, dimensional or mechanical term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sampleCoordinate, edgeCoordinate, reverseAxis, suppliedScale. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read signedOffset. Use the output convention below.

Return a scaled signed sample-to-edge offset. Require scale > 0; offset = (sampleCoordinate-edgeCoordinate)*scale, reversed under reverseAxis.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
sampleCoordinateSample CoordinateRequired. Finite number.
edgeCoordinateEdge CoordinateRequired. Finite number.
reverseAxisReverse AxisRequired. Boolean.
suppliedScaleSupplied ScaleRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.

signedOffsetSigned OffsetRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The reference axis, positions and scale are supplied; sample provenance, actual location and appropriate sampling are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated measurements, representative material tests and qualified conservation/engineering assessment before actual treatment, mounting or handling.
