Conservation Color Difference Single Coordinate Tool

One explicitly weighted coordinate difference, not a complete Delta E color-difference formula.

Loading tool…

Description

Return one color-coordinate difference and weighted square.

Illuminance, accumulated light exposure, polarization and color-coordinate differences are different optical quantities. Lux-hours combine illuminance and duration; one coordinate difference does not describe a complete color difference or an object’s susceptibility to damage. Optical and preservation interpretation require suitable calibration and material context.

Return one color-coordinate difference and weighted square.

When to use this tool

Use Conservation Color Difference Single Coordinate when checking the stated illumination, exposure or optical-coordinate term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter reference, observed, weight. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read difference, weightedSquare. Use the output convention below.

Return one color-coordinate difference and weighted square. Require weight >= 0; difference = observed-reference, weightedSquare = weight*difference².1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is one supplied coordinate contribution, not a complete perceptual color-difference metric, calibration or condition assessment.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated lighting/color measurements and an object-specific conservation assessment for display limits, color fidelity or deterioration risk.
