Condition Image Scale Residual Tool

Compare supplied condition-image scale measurements without identifying damage or advising treatment.

Description

Return scaled image distance and physical-reference residual.

Conservation measurements separate nominal material composition, contact geometry, expansion and mechanical response. A volume fraction or clearance term evaluates supplied properties under a limited model; actual material compatibility, treatment effects and object stability require examination and specialist judgment.

Return scaled image distance and physical-reference residual.

When to use this tool

Use Condition Image Scale Residual when checking the stated conservation material, dimensional or mechanical term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter imageDistance, referencePixels, referenceLength, suppliedPhysicalDistance. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read scaledDistance, residual. Use the output convention below.

Return scaled image distance and physical-reference residual. Require referencePixels > 0 and other distances >= 0; scaledDistance = imageDistance*referenceLength/referencePixels, residual = scaled-suppliedPhysicalDistance.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes the same image scale and compatible units; no camera distortion, object identity or actual condition is verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated measurements, representative material tests and qualified conservation/engineering assessment before actual treatment, mounting or handling.
